JACKIE CHAN FACES JAIL FOR POSSESSION OF FIREARMS

Jackie Chan (成龙) could face a lifetime jail term if he is found guilty of illegal possession of weapons.

The Hollywood star revealed in a recent media interview that, years ago, he was once surrounded by 20 gangsters holding long knives. To protect himself, he says he bought three guns and six grenades.

If he did, he shouldn’t have done, according to Hong Kong law.

Jackie explained that Hong Kong’s showbiz world used to be controlled by the triads.

“At that time, they really did just point guns at Andy Lau (刘德华) and others. You were shooting films and along came two mobsters holding guns, saying, ‘You’re shooting a movie for us!’

“Say, if you were paid 100,000, they just gave you 2,000. That’s how they bullied us!” Jackie told the Chinese-language South People Weekly (南方人物周刊).

He said to protect his company’s artistes, such as Maggie Cheung (张曼玉), Joey Wong (王祖賢) and Jacky Cheung (张学友), he had to toughen up.

“When I hid away in the US, I was met with gunshots upon getting off the plane. I had to take a gun when I went out, everyday,” he added.

Not surprisingly, his comments have sent shockwaves across the entertainment world and Hong Kong police  have reportedly launched an investigation.

According to Hong Kong’s statutes, anyone who carries guns and ammunition without good reason can be put in jail for a maximum term of a lifetime.
