Born to a Portuguese-English father and a Chinese mother, Isabella Leong (梁洛施) dropped out of school at the age of 12 to join the Hong Kong-based Emperor Entertainment Group (英皇娱乐) as a teenage model.
She released her debut album, Isabella, when she was 16 and later turned to acting as her singing career did not take off.
After making a string of films in the local market, she landed her first Hollywood film role in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, released in 2008.
It was during the shooting of this film that Isabella was introduced to Hong Kong tycoon Richard Li (李泽楷) through her good friend, Hollywood star Michelle Yeoh (杨紫琼).
Their romance surfaced in March 2008.
In April 2009, Isabella gave birth to Richard’s first baby boy, Ethan Li (李长治). Then in July 2010, the actress delivered twin sons with Richard. But still, she remained Richard’s girlfriend and had to live a low-key life with the three kids in Canada, as if exiled from Hong Kong.
In February 2011, Isabella was spotted drinking and talking with her first boyfriend (when she was about nine) for three hours at a Toronto nightclub.
This was rumored to be one of the reasons behind Isabella and Richard’s split, announced on February 26.
Others said Isabella had been pushing too hard in an attempt to marry into the Li family, which triggered a counter-effect.
Other gossips suggested that Isabella was not Richard’s lover to begin with, but only signed an agreement to produce offspring to help Richard win over the family’s enormous assets.
Still, Isabella has become one of the richest single moms ever as she received HK$100 million (US$12.8 million) for each of the three sons she gave birth to, which means she has earned HK$300 million (US$38.5 million) as a baby-making machine.
As for her shocking split with Richard, it was reported she was given a separation fee of HK$4 billion (US$513 million), in terms of cash, cars and properties.
This was denied by Richard, in a statement.
