Out of tune? Blame period pains

Out of tune? Blame period pains

Following Faye Wong (王菲) and Wang Lee-hom’s (王力宏) disappointing performances at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala on January 22 the production’s sound system has been blamed.

However, pissed off by the claims, the gala’s sound system team has counterattacked on various microblogs, saying the real problem is that the stars couldn’t hold a tune.

A netizen, alias “Night Tour on Chang’an Street” (夜游长安街 ), said Faye’s voice sounded the same at the many rehearsals and, after each rehearsal, she always clarified there was no problem with her microphone or the sound system.

Another netizen, called “Zhao A-qiuer” (赵阿球儿), further revealed that Faye actually lip-synced the song Legend (传奇) at the same gala in 2010.

Faye’s manager Katie Chan (陈家瑛) dismissed the accusation, saying, “There’s no issue about lip-syncing. We have sung what we should have sung. Any problems you should go ask CCTV.”

Faye has previously gone on record as saying that she sings off tune whenever she’s having a period.

The video clip below shows Faye and Hong Kong singer Eason Chan (陈奕迅) sang Because of Love (因为爱情) at this year’s CCTV gala.

May Daily Says: Lee-hom will no doubt blame his inability to hold a tune on “man periods” – which obviously last 365 days a year.
