Lin Chi-ling breaks a leg, wins over audience in play
Lin Chi-ling (林志玲) made a breakthrough in Ginza, Tokyo, Monday night when she showed off her performing skills and fluent Japanese at the premiere of the stage version of Red Cliffs ~ Love.
Not only did her cute little girl voice disappear (as if it had never been there), she impressed and touched the audience when tears rolled down her cheeks at one point in the play.
The 36-year-old model-turned-actress, starring as Xiao Qiao (小喬), also sang (which is really not something she is good at) and dancing with Japanese boyband EXILE’s Akira, who posed as Xiao Qiao’s husband Zhou Yu (周瑜), commander of Eastern Wu.
Before the curtain rose, she kept telling staff backstage, “I’m so nervous.”
Although the Japanese director Goro Kishitani praised her, she felt there is still room for improvement, such as her Japanese usage and pronunciation.
Tickets for the 32 performances from Monday to August 31 are nearly sold out.
