Melody Awards queen Karen Mok to wed

It was a night full of surprises at the 22nd Golden Melody Awards ceremony in Taipei last night.

After Hong Kong’s Karen Mok (莫文蔚) was crowned the Best Mandarin Female Singer, the 41-year-old happily announced she’s getting married in October!

The prince charming is her first boyfriend, a German called Johannes, whom she met aged 17 when she studied in Italy.

The two rekindled their romance in 2009 and Johannes, a father of three kids, proposed to Karen in April this year.

They decided to get married at a city in northeastern Italy where they met and fell in love.

This is the second time Karen has won the awards’ top honor.

She said she will not retire from showbiz after getting married.

Taiwan pop sensation Jay Chou (周杰倫) clinched the top awards, Best Mandarin Male Singer and Best Mandarin Album.

Since issuing his first album 11 years ago, Jay has won 15 Golden Melody Awards trophies.

“The Golden Melody jury is different every year. I like the one this year,” he said. “I always debat whether or not to attend the awards ceremony. Usually when I skip it I win the big prizes. Thanks to the jury for changing my mind.”
