“Super Girl” is back bigger than ever
Aspiring stars are applying to take part in the fifth edition of Super Girl (超级女声) — inspired by Pop Idol.
They have been signing on for the show since April 1, in six cities: Changsha, Shenyang, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Xi’an.
Hunan TV is this time cooperating with the microblog services of the four most popular web portals in China, so the contestants can interact with fans.
Crossover folk singer Gong Linna (龚琳娜) is set to work with the aspiring singers and dancers on their performances, which should be interesting.
Super Girl is one of China’s most successful TV programs and has made stars of Li Yuchun (李宇春) and Jane Zhang (张靓颖).
Super Girl was changed to Happy Girls (快乐女声) and relaunched in 2009 after it was described as “poison” by a prominent politician. It is still known as Super Girl, in English.
