Gong Li (巩俐) is set to appear with comedian Jim Carrey in the new film Ripleys Believe It or Not!, scheduled to screen in 2013.

The film started the casting process four years ago.

Gong Li’s English fluency gave her the edge of her younger competitor Zhang Ziyi (章子怡) to win the role.

After making her name in the West with Memoirs of a Geisha in 2005, the 45-year-old Gong has appeared in further three Hollywood films – Miami Vice, Hannibal Rising and Shanghai.

She will soon leave for Mongolia to shoot a film about Genghis Khan, starring Mickey Rourke.
