Age a number for Zhang Jingchu
Zhang Jingchu (张静初), the star of blockbuster Aftershock (唐山大地震) has been lying about her age, according to Southern Metropolis Entertainment Weekly.
When the Central Academy of Drama actress first started making a name for herself she was referred to as the “Small (or younger) Zhang Ziyi” (小章子怡) because she was said to look much the same.
However, since she was born in 1977 and Ziyi was born in 1979, the “Small Zhang Ziyi” tag wasn’t working out.
Therefore, she claims to have changed her date of birth, at her agent’s request, to 1980.
Believe her story if you like, but apparently her Wiki (and other reference guides) DOB listing of February 2, 1980, is incorrect and she is actually 33 years old.
China’s gymnasts are famous for claiming they are older than they actually are, so this is an interesting twist on the age-old story.
It has to be said, Zhang looks great for her age!
Aftershock, about the devastating Tangshan earthquake of 1976 that claimed the lives of about 240,000 people, is causing rumblings of content for its film distributors.
Huayi Brothers (華誼兄弟) has released figures suggesting the film grossed a record 400 million yuan (US$58.9 million) in its first 11 days since being released
Feng Xiaogang (馮小剛) directed the movie and reckons it will be the first Chinese movie to break the 500 million yuan ($73.7 million) mark.
