Gong Li (巩俐) sacrificed all on the altar of love but was forced to divorce.

According to the actress’ “close associate” she did everything she could to make the marriage work.

It was nothing to do with her rumored affairs with a number of younger men or Hollywood celebrity John Cusack.

The only reason they parted, the associate claimed, was that she and hubby Ooi Hoe Seong (黃和祥) spent so much time apart.

Which is what you do when you want to be together.

Equally, leading separate lives couldn’t have helped when it came to having a baby.

Even so, Gong Li is said to have been so desperate to please her husband and give birth she turned down a movie offer.

She even tried fertility treatment in Singapore, Beijing and the US, including traditional Chinese medicine.

All to no avail, obviously.

Hoe Seong was such a supportive husband, apparently, he even went to Beijing to look after Gong Li’s mother when she was sick.

This is the reason, supposedly, Gong Li gave up her Chinese citizenship and became a Singaporean.
