Beijing-born Zhang Ziyi (章子怡) has been out repairing public relations at home after her image was seriously damaged by an ugly court case and “Donate Gate” scandal.

At a New Year’s party for the capital city’s entertainment circle on Sunday she managed to spread a little happiness.

But despite the champagne toasts and sweet words, Beijing News reported that she told one friend: “It’s not so easy being a movie star.”

While it is tempting to feel sorry for her, much of her troubles  is so not easy in the movie industry,” according to a “Beijing News” report.

At the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) and China Central Television party were other big stars, including actress Kitty Zhang (张雨绮) and singers Alan Tam (谭咏麟) and Li Yuchun (李宇春).

Zhang has just emerged from a court case involving “Party Queen” Zhao Xinyu, who alleged the actress was two-timing her billionaire film financier Vivi Nevo with a Shanghai billionaire.

Then Zhang was hit by press allegations she had not paid the money she promised to charities for victims of the Sichuan earthquake.

While it is tempting to feel sorry for her, much of her troubles  have been self-made and are being gleefully pounced upon by a cynical Chinese public.
